Macromedia recently released Flash 8 IDE/Authoring software, which includes a new emulator for testing Flash Lite content. Apparently the emulator plays all supported Flash Lite device audio formats, such as MIDI, SMAF and MFi without requiring the awkward placeholder sound conversion process required in Flash MX 2004 Pro. The Khronos Group is pleased to announce the formation of the new OpenSL ES (Open Sound Library for Embedded Systems) working group to define an open, royalty-free, cross-platform API (application programming interface) standard to enable low-level audio hardware acceleration across multiple embedded devices and platforms.
